Carpet Designer (Full Time)
Fort Street Studio, the leader in design and manufacture of luxurious hand knotted carpets found in the most important residences and interiors around the world, seeks a carpet design professional to join its design studio.
The position calls for a qualified, experienced in-house carpet designer to be based in the Fort Street Studio, Wong Chuk Hang showroom. This position will require working closely with the Sales team and individual interior designers and private clients.
Assisting the sales team on bespoke projects by accurately interpreting and representing client’s ideas, using specialist software, including Photoshop and Illustrator. Reviewing custom colour samples with the sales team. Liaising and coordinating directly with various carpet producers in China, India and Nepal.
The designer will be involved in the design development of future collections and will oversee a visual database of prototypes and strikes off samples.
As the team is small, there will be a variety of jobs that occur during a year that require teamwork, in order to accomplish the given tasks.

Hours of Work
9:30 a.m – 6:00 p.m, Monday to Friday
Reports to
Managed and supervised by the company principals, the Vice President in New York office, and Office Manager in Hong Kong
Duties & Responsibilities
Custom Size, Colour and Bespoke Design
Work on custom projects according to client’s specification, by assisting sales staff in producing sketches in email and print formats.
Generate basic transformations of company standard designs into custom sizes and/or custom colours.
Produce weaving or tufting pattern upon approval of renderings.
Prepare the instructions to the factories in China, Nepal and India for any custom orders.
Review and approve custom samples and lab dips for pattern, colour and construction standards.
Catalogue and maintain visual database of all new prototypes and strike off samples that arrive in Hong Kong. Share when necessary with the NY and London teams.
Participate in and support sales meetings when required in or out of the showroom.
New Design Development
Work with FSS creative directors to transform original designs from a concept to a finished weave-able pattern/graph.
Contribute ideas and preliminary design sketches for new design collections.
Other/additional
Development of creative marketing collateral and eDM content.
Attending trade shows/ pop ups when necessary.
Qualifications
Expertise in Photoshop and Illustrator.
Work experience in textile /carpet design or related fields of at least 1-2 years

Highly self-motivated, creative, and can work independently.
Strong colour sensibility
Able to multi-task and work with a small dedicated team in many overlapping roles.
A flexible “can do” approach
Strong communication skills, and is fluent in English, Cantonese; able to speak Mandarin a plus.
