Cocktail Bar Source in Inspired by Water
In Hong Kong, new tapas and cocktail bar Source was designed by multidisciplinary collective LTMC to evoke waterfalls and natural pools
In the Hong Kong Island neighbourhood of Sai Ying Pun, new boutique property Y Hotel has opened a tapas and cocktail bar on its first floor — a modern, elegant lounge just above the busy street.
Inspired by the concept of a natural water source, the bar was designed by local collective LTMC (Little Tipsy Mostly Creative). ‘Since the hotel is a new build and has a contemporary design, it stands out in the area,’ says studio founder Terence Or. ‘We wanted to carry the vibe of the interiors outside the bar, so the design of the ceiling was key as it’s the first thing people see from the street level.’
A sandstone finish on the walls and sandstone-like tiles create a cave-like atmosphere, wallpaper by Italian brand Glamora depicts a misty forest, and fluid lines, from the feature ceiling to the furniture and the bar, and lush plants are recurring motifs. ‘We wanted to recreate the experience of swimming in a natural cave, but in a way that wasn’t too literal or rustic,’ Or explains. ‘One of the main features of the bar is a delicate custom-made glass installation that represents a glistening waterfall.’
Grounding one corner of the space, the main bar features a dark green marble top and green ribbed timber base. Large windows are dressed with sheer curtains cut in an arched shape, evoking the vaults of a cave and the ripples of a pool. Beneath, a light blue banquette mirrors the curves, recalling the movement of water.
Overall, Source is an elegant take on the classic hotel bar, where minimal yet sumptuous interiors create a sense of escape.
