Associate Art Director, Design Anthology
Design Anthology is a premium, independent media brand recognised for its distinctive visual identity, editorial integrity and high production values. We’re looking for an associate art director to join our tight-knit, collaborative team. This is a hands-on role with creative responsibility across print, digital and campaign work — ideal for a designer ready to take the next step in their practice.
Working closely with the editor-in-chief, commissioning rditor and commercial team, you’ll help shape and evolve the brand’s visual direction. Responsibilities include designing layouts for the print magazine, The Dispatch and our website; selecting and editing photography; commissioning and guiding photographers and illustrators; and producing visual assets for digital platforms and special projects. You should have a strong command of editorial design, with a clear sense of structure, rhythm and hierarchy.
We’re seeking someone with curiosity, confidence and a sharp eye. You should be comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects and schedules, collaborating with internal teams and external contributors and seeing projects through from concept to delivery. For the right candidate, this role offers a pathway to a future creative director position.
Responsibilities
Produce editorial layouts for the print magazine, The Dispatch and the website
Commission, source, select and edit photography and illustration across print and digital
Collaborate with editorial and commercial teams on ongoing projects
Maintain and uphold Design Anthology’s visual identity across all channels
Manage relationships with photographers, illustrators, freelance designers and suppliers
Manage the digital production workflow, including artwork creation, uploads and scheduling
Oversee final artwork preparation and liaise with printers
Create visual assets for the website, email, social media, events and brand activations
Requirements
Minimum three years of professional design experience, ideally in an editorial setting
A portfolio demonstrating strong layout, typography and attention to detail
Expert working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
Strong understanding of editorial systems including grids, pacing and hierarchy
Familiarity with digital and social media formats
Excellent organisational and project management skills, with a commitment to deadlines
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Experience with pre-press workflows and print production
