A global leader in kitchen and bath products, Kohler Co. took Design Miami/ 2021 as an opportunity to celebrate its commitment to design innovation, launching a new collaboration with New York-based artist Daniel Arsham, as well as highlighting several global collections.

Arsham and Kohler pioneered a new manufacturing technique to create Rock.01, a limited series of 99 3D-printed bathroom sinks that pair simple, organic forms with cutting-edge digital crafting techniques. ‘A lot of my work is about taking things that people already know or are already familiar with, and engaging them in spaces where you don’t expect to see art,’ said Arsham. ‘So obviously, a bathroom — a space we engage with multiple times a day — is somewhere really interesting to work.’

The 3D-printed ceramic sinks are formed from two asymmetrically stacked elements: a smooth, glossy computer-milled china basin, and a rough hand-cast brass base finished with an ammonia vapor patina. ‘Rock.01 melds the latest 3D-printing technology with the most basic methods of hand-cast brass,’ Arsham said. ‘It’s the new resting on top of the old, and I find that incredibly poetic.’ Each of the 99 printed sinks is made to order by a team of artisans in Kohler, Wisconsin, and are available to purchase from December 2021.

For Rock.01’s Design Miami launch, Arsham designed an installation titled Stone Flow. Made from a series of giant stone-like objects , the work represents the experimental phases of the project and allows viewers deeper insights into the process and product.

In addition to Rock.01, Kohler presented several new collections. The Statement Showering Collection, for example, brings unique, voluminous forms to the shower space, and comprises a showerhead, four styles of hand showers, four rain heads, and two body sprayers, available in a range of classic and contemporary finishes.

Inspired by the glamour of the Golden Age of Hollywood, the Occasion faucet collection is designed to make an elegant statement with its chamfered edges and subtle flare at the base.

Finally, Kohler presented its new Anthem valves and controls, sleek new controls that have all the familiarity of common household appliances, while being intuitive and offering myriad options for temperature and spray control in the shower.
