An initiative of the Society of Interior Designers Singapore, the Singapore Interior Design Awards (SIDA) 2022 Gala Night was held in September, with winners announced from over 400 entries in several categories.

Ruffled Ice was conceived to draw attention to the excessive use of plastic packaging in today’s society. Lim sculpted plastic waste from discarded packaging materials into visualisations of melting icebergs and ice caverns.

Lim also took home the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work over three decades in the industry. His projects include the retail component of Changi Airport Terminal 2, Paragon Shopping Centre, Our Tampines Hub, The Dubai Mall, Emaar Square Mall in Istanbul, the Perennial International Specialist Medical Centre in Chengdu, Project Keiko in Kobe and Cinemaxx Junior in Jakarta.

The Dulux Colour Award went to Geila Daughtrey of Rockett Studio for her work on the  Oasia Resort Sentosa restaurant Bedrock Origin. The beautifully restored heritage building that houses the restaurant was once Southeast Asia’s first Malay artillery barracks and dates back to 1940.

Singapore-based 932 Design took home the award for Best Design Firm 2022. The firm has won numerous awards all over the world, including in Europe and the United States. The studio’s design ethos is based on an admiration for delicately complex craft and designs that appear deceptively simple, yet luxurious. It was lauded for its extensive portfolio, which includes Highline Residences and Balmoral Tower.

Another big announcement at the awards ceremony was the launch of a new Interior Design Incubation Centre to nurture local talent and help start-ups establish a firm foundation when they enter the interior design industry. Expected to be ready by May 2023, the centre aims to provide better opportunities and more shared resources for those entering the interior design industry.
