The Global Monument Design Competition Finalists Announced

The top 20 designs for a new monument at Da Lat’s Valley of Love have been selected as part of the Global Monument Design Competition, with the winner announced at the end of June

Held by Vietnamese hospitality group TTC Hospitality in conjunction with the Ho Chi Minh Design Association — Vietnam (VDAS) and Vietnam Design Award VMARK, the Global Monument Design Competition invited architects and designers to conceive a new monument at Da Lat’s Valley of Love.

Now, after the three-month entry period, the top 20 designs have been chosen, with the winner set to be announced at an awards ceremony on June 29, 2023. This year’s Global Monument Design Competition has garnered significant attention from the international design community, receiving nearly 1,000 submissions from the United States, Australia, Italy, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Dubai and Vietnam, among others.

The enthusiastic response is seen by the organising committee as an encouraging indication of the competition's success in promoting the iconic Valley of Love (Vallée d'Amour) and elevating Da Lat city as a cultural and tourist destination. By positioning Da Lat alongside renowned landmarks both domestically and internationally, the competition aims to showcase the city's allure and reinforce its status as a hub of artistry and travel.

Chosen by a jury of professors, doctors, founders, directors and advisors from Japan, Hong Kong, Finland, the UK, the US, Poland, Chile and Vietnam, the top 20 designs honour the ‘eternal significance and beauty of love’. According to Ho Tan Duong, president of VDAS and representative of the organising committee, ‘The quality and creativity of the artworks have exceeded initial expectations. These pieces not only demonstrate visual beauty but also convey a unique and profound message about love.’

The large-scale works embody what TTC Group and Jury Board chairman Dang Van Thanh describes as ‘the harmonious blend of Asian and European beauty, modernity and the rich cultural heritage of the Vietnamese people, which resonates with the overall landscape and natural scenery of Vallée d'Amour in Da Lat.’

The Grand Prize-winning design will be brought to life at Vallée d'Amour, and the artwork is expected to become a new landmark in the city of Da Lat and in Vietnam more broadly.

Additionally, six out of the top 20 works will win other prestigious awards and the works will all be shown at the Design Awards Exhibition during Vietnam Design Week VMARK 2023.
