A Home at the Intersection of Fashion and Design
Guided by a design philosophy shaped by his fashion roots, Jasper Goh of Ascend Design conceived The Bahru House to be a textural, tonal space characterised by natural stone, warm timber and shades of green
The Bahru House reflects owner Jasper Goh’s pursuit of serenity through material honesty and tonal restraint. The founder and principal of Ascend Design started his career in fashion before moving into interiors. ‘That combination really shaped how I think about design. I’ve always been drawn to how form, texture and proportion affect how we feel in a space,’ he explains. ‘Ascend came out of a desire to create homes that feel calm, intentional and quietly beautiful.’
Goh drew inspiration from a recent trip to Bali, translating the experience of calmness into interiors characterised by muted greens, textured marble and warm wood. Spaces are fluid, furniture appears to float and details privilege mood over ornament, from the sculptural timber dining set designed in-house to the spa-like bathroom wrapped in green marble. ‘I approached The Bahru House much like I would dressing a person: understanding its proportions, layering textures and letting the details do the talking. I’ve always been drawn to structure with softness, something that feels elevated but lived in, and I think that comes through in the house.’
