Timeless Elegance at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands
The redesign of the Marina Bay Sands guestrooms and suites is marked by attention to the smallest detail.
Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands celebrated 15 years of being an icon on the city’s skyline with a major redesign of all guestrooms and suites across its Paiza and Sands Collections. The reimagining of the Sands Collection was led by acclaimed Singapore- and Hong Kong-based Peter Silling & Associates, and the firm aimed to elevate the hotel’s home-away-from-home feeling, instilling a design narrative inspired by Singapore’s ‘Garden City’ moniker.
The Sands Collection comprises 1,480 rooms and suites, from the chic Sands Premier Room to the family-friendly Sands Family Suite, designed as ‘urban sanctuaries’ that privilege thoughtful details and objets by local and global designers and artisans.
The tone of the redesign is set in the lift lobby and corridors, where bespoke sculpture interweaves with the sophisticated material palette of the rooms. Within, the style is contemporary residential, with pearly silver and neutral tones complemented by shades of marina blues, and buffed calf leather, polished silver, marble floors, and tactile fabrics reflecting a passion for refined craft. Bespoke armoires with gold chinoiserie patterns nod to the city’s meeting of cultures in both their design and the range of refreshments they offer.
A highlight is the Sands Signature Suite. The Sands Collection’s finest, the suites offer a Social Bar, six-seater dining table, and a choice of pool table, media room, or entertainment den. As with other rooms in the Sands Collection, the spa-like bathroom connects to a spacious walk-in wardrobe, and features double vanities that make each daily ritual a pampering experience.
Here, fittings by Axor are a natural choice. Basin faucets and the shower module are selected from the original Axor Citterio range by legendary Italian designer Antonio Citterio and the updated Axor Citterio E and Axor Citterio M ranges. Showcasing the designer’s consistent, geometric design language, the distinctive flat surfaces brilliantly reflect the light while the fittings celebrate the ritual of washing with balanced proportions and elegant lines. As Citterio says, ‘If you enjoy the ritual of washing every day, you should be able to enjoy using beautiful products for it.’
